Mysuru: An employee of the railways here has been arrested for alleged misappropriation of railway money.

Vijay Kumar Teran, the commercial clerk at the Bengaluru East Railway Station was nabbed on Saturday for swindling railway money to the tune of Rs 65 lakh.

The misappropriation came to light during the annual financial auditing. Instantly the accused was handed over to the Railway Protect Force, Bengaluru division. Based on circumstantial evidence, RPF authorities arrested Vijay Kumar.

Though a commercial clerk is required to remit the collection on daily basis, Kumar had reportedly not done the same and had also gobbled a part of the money while remitting the collected amount.

RPF Commandant M Suresh told newskarnataka.com that the accused is said to have used the railway money for his own purpose and the preliminary probe has revealed the misappropriations pertaining to March and April, this year. The RPF, which is probing the case is checking past records as well and is also looking in to the possibilities of other railway employees having been associated with Kumar in this crime. It is also said that Kumar continued to handle the financial issues despite being on sick leave.

With this incident, Bengaluru division railway authorities have tightened up accounts and audit system.
