Mysuru: Government is contemplating to establish blood banks in all district centers and blood storage units in all taluks said Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader.

Speaking after inaugurating World Blood Donors’ Day celebration organised by JSS University, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Department of Transfusion Medicine and JSS College of nursing based on theme ‘Blood connects us all’ at JSS Hospital premise on Tuesday, he said “Though science and technology has rapidly grown, there is no substitute for human blood. Blood donation is the greatest donation of all and this is the best occasion to thank and honour the blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood. People should voluntarily come forward to donate blood to save precious lives. People should not be selfish; they should not only live for themselves but also should live for others”.
“We have come with a website called ‘Jeeva Sanjeevini’ which enables searching for blood across all blood banks in the state of Karnataka that could facilitate people in need. One can come across the availability of various groups of blood in the website” added Khader.
Mayor BL Bhyrappa who also spoke on the occasion shared his experience about importance of blood donation. “When my son was suffering from dengue with just 5000 platelets counts, doctor instructed to immediately arrange at least 11 people for blood. I called my relatives but most of them couldn’t come on time due to various reasons, but people from Nachanahallipalya Slum who came to know about requirement of blood to my son came voluntarily and donated the required blood. The people who donated blood belonged to various caste including Muslim and SC” added Bhyrappa.
On the occasion the ministers also honoured three regular voluntary blood donors. TK Suresh who has donated O negative blood 12 times, M Naveen who O+ blood for 34 times and Shiva Kumar who donated A+ blood for 20 times.
Students, teaching and non teaching staff and other members from the public donated blood on the occasion. There was good response from the people.
