BJP-JD(S) tie-up : Congress loses Mysore TP Presidentship

Mysore : G Kumar of JD(S)  and Lokamani of BJP were elected the President and Vice President respectively of Mysore Taluk Panchayat. Kumar represents Naganahalli constituency while Lokamani represents Devalapura constituency.

The elections were held at the TP Auditorium of Mini Vidhana Saudha. In the elections held for the third term, the Congress had to face defeat owing to a tie-up between the JD(S) and the BJP. Kumar defeated Congress candidate Somanna while Lokamani defeated Veena Basavaraju.

The Mysore TP has a total of 29 members including 12 Congress, 11 JD(S) and six BJP members. As per the JD(S)-BJP tie-up, the JD(S) candidate will head the  Panchayat for the first ten months and the BJP candidate Lokamani for the next ten months.  Though the Congress had earlier tried to gain hold of top post by proposing an alliance with the BJP, the latter had demanded the post of presidentship which was not agreeable to the Congress.

Speaking after his victory, G Kumar said he would give top priority towards solving basic problems and will  take measures towards regular water supply, garbage disposal and  also steps to solve unemployment problem.

Kumar is a law graduate and is in the JD(S) for the past 12 years.
