Mysore: R. Lingappa of the JD(S), representing Ward 20 in the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and M. Mahadevamma of the BJP, representing Ward 63, were today elected as the 28th Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mysore respectively for a period of one year at the elections held at Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Auditorium in the MCC premises.
In the election, Lingappa defeated his Congress rival R. Ananthu representing Ward 58, by securing 40 votes as against 27 secured by Congress candidate which was held under the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976.
In the elections to the post of Deputy Mayor, Mahadevamma of BJP secured 39 votes as against 27 polled by Sameena of BSR Congress representing Ward 3 to emerge victorious.
