Assault on widow, spurned lover gets 3-year jail term

Mysuru: The II Additional District and Sessions judge sentenced a spurned lover to 3-year jail term on September 2 for assaulting a widow and attempting to kill her in Mysuru.

Prakash (31), the accused had made a murder bid on widow Bhavya on December 30, 2014 and gone absconding.

Bhavya had returned to her parental home after her husband died of illness, 3-months after marriage and started working in a garment factory in Belavadi area.

Prakash, employed at a nearby factory started harassing Bhavya by making repeated phone calls, while forcing her into a relationship with him.

Unable to bear the harassment, Bhavya gave up her job and stayed back at home in Mavinahalli village. When Bhavya was alone at home, accused Prakash went to her house and knocked the door. Bhavya refused to open the door but Prakash managed to gain entry into the house through the roof by removing the tiles.

Bhavya cried for help and before neighbours could come to her rescue, Prakash had inflicted injuries at 8 places on Bhavya’s body and fled the scene. Bhavya recovered from injuries sustained, after she was admitted to a hospital by her neighbours.

Meanwhile, Police managed to trace absconding Prakash and nabbed him. They filed a charge sheet against him by providing all the evidence in their possession. Court took cognisance of the offence and sentenced accused Prakash to 3-year jail term and levied Rs 1.1 Lakh fine on him, with Rs 10,000 for the expenses incurred by prosecution and the rest to victim Bhavya.
