HC refuses abortion for sexually abused impregnated minor

Bengaluru: The state High Court refused permission for abortion in its judgement dated August 31 to a 17-year-old impregnated minor girl carrying a 20-week-old foetus in her womb.

The girl approached the court and filed her plea for abortion stating that motherhood at her age will impact her physical as well as mental health. She also mentioned that, her future academic career too would get affected, in case she delivers a baby.

M S Ramaiah Medical College which examined the girl in its medical report clarified that either pregnancy or abortion will have no bearing on sexually abused victim’s life.

The girl became pregnant after a youth befriended the girl assuring her of marriage and ended the relationship after sexually abusing her.
