Mysuru: As part of Anti-Malaria month, District Health and Family Welfare Department will be conducting Anti Malaria day on June 7. District Health Department aims to eradicate Malaria by 2020 while in state; the government wants to completely eradicate Malaria by 2022.
“Usually June is the time when malaria cases are reported from most of the places. Especially during June and December tight vigil is required to check the spread of vector borne diseases. The department has planned awareness at all levels including at PHC level to create awareness about malaria. Government of India set a target that Malaria should be eradicated in the country by 2030″, said Dr S Chidambara, District Vector Borne Diseases Control Officer, Mysuru district.
In 2014 January to December, there was 54 malaria positive cases in the district while in 2015 from January to December the number of cases came down to 34. This year, that is from January to May 30, there are 15 positive malaria cases reported in the district. Though there are 15 positive malaria cases reported in the district, none of the cases are reported from the local places it’s all migrated cases, like those who went to trip to other places and people who have come from other places have got malaria. Usually these mosquitoes are found in fresh water and bite during night time. The treatment for Malaria will be for 14 days or 3 days. The government hospitals provide free treatment to all including APL card holders.
As part of anti-malaria day event, the jatha will be flagged off at District Health Department office in Nazarbad at 9.30am and pass through Nazarbad main road, Theobald road, Suburban road, Mini Vidhana soudha and back to district health office.
