Anganavadi workers protest against ICDS privatisation move

Mysore : Hundreds of Anganavadi workers staged a protest in front of the DC office here opposing the proposal to privatise the   Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme . The protestors were arrested and later released on bail.

The protestors shouted slogans against the government move to entrust management of Anganavadis to private firms. They alleged that the government which had increased the working hours of the Anganavadi workers was exploiting them by not offering even minimum wages. The Anganavadi workers are deputed to other works and then blamed for inefficiency of their centres, the agitators alleged and said they were left with no other go but to protest.

They also demanded a minimum salary of Rs 15000 to Anganavadi workers and Rs 10,000 to the helpers.

S Varalakshmi, State President of the Association, HS Sunanda, General Secretary, G Kamala, Treasurer, KP Kaveramma, District President and others participated in the protest.
