Mysuru: The District Administration, in association with Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child Welfare Department, District Child Protection Unit, JSS Law College and various organisations, celebrated International Women’s Day by taking out rally and conducting marathons in the city this morning.

Before starting the stage program at Jaganmohan Palace, a rally was flagged off in front of the Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple. Soon after things went wrong. The rally led by Pushpa Amarnath, Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma, ZP CEO PA Gopal and other officials — arrived at the circle on foot from Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple at Mysore Palace north gate, when a head constable stopped them from forming the envisaged human chain.
Amarnath intervened there was a heated exchange with the police head constable attached to the police control room (PCR) vehicle. However, after the constable learnt that it was a district administration program and Pushpa Amarnath was the ZP President, the police officer gave permission to form the human chain.
Sadly, the stage program at Jaganmohan Palace was played to an empty hall, which irked the ZP President. The ZP President was totally upset with the response of women, that too on International Women’s day. Regretting that Women’s Day celebration has become superficial with women being subjected to all sorts of atrocities, the ZP President called for more women participation in all spheres of life.
Dr. Pushpa also regretted the absence of people’s representatives, political leaders and officials, especially when the district administration had organised the programme extending invitation to all concerned.
Earlier, Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma, along with the members of Helping Hands Jain Youth Organisation, celebrated the day by feeding the pigeons in front of Kote Anjaneya- swamy Temple.
K.R. MLA M.K. Somashekar, Deputy Mayor M. Mahadevamma, ZP CEO P.A. Gopal and others were present.
