AIDS Awareness Jatha in Mysore

Mysore : The District AIDS Control Cell and the NSS unit of the Vidyavardhaka First Grade College   organized an AIDS  awareness jatha  in the town on December 1, Sunday  with the co-operation of various other organizations. The jatha was organized with the theme ‘Bring down to zero.’

The jatha which commenced  from near the JSS Nursing College at Saraswathipuram was participated by students from various nursing colleges, members of Inner Wheel Club of Mysore Central, Ashodaya Samithi, Ananda Jyothi Network, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Asha Kirana and other organisations.

The participants were seen holding placards creating awareness on the dreaded disease.

30 % of condoms unsafe :  Dr H Hanumanthappa,  Dean and Director of the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute warned that  30 per cent of condoms available in the market were unsafe and urged youngsters to shun from  unsafe sex.

Gundappa Gowda, Honorary President of the Vidyavardhaka Sangha who earlier flagged off the jatha  said the only point of satisfaction was that the incidences of AIDS related deaths have reduced in the recent times.
