A British era caved in mine in a school campus causes excitement

Mysuru: A British era caved in mine was found  in the campus of a private school premises at Sindhuvalli Village in Mysuru Taluk.

Rumours of the find of ‘Suranga Marga’ at Sidhuvalli school spread like wildfire  on Tuesday morning and the officials from the Archaeology department rushed to the spot and said that it was a mine that had  carved in during the British regime.

The mine came into light when the school authorities were making preparations for the 24th year annual celebrations of the school. They were carrying out cleaning activities inside the campus. During this a lorry which was carrying water to spread water to prevent the area from dust around, got stuck and the space which was completely covered by mud sand plunged in leading to pathway for about 1 and ½ kms. The lorry was successfully shifted out of the sink hole.

Meanwhile, the School authorities who noticed the mine have informed the officers of Department of Archaeology. They,  along with the public inspected the spot completely for 300 meters and found the path half open with stones spread across. It is said that the path was used by the British to transport Iron ore and magnetite ore during their regime.

Following the incident, N L Gowda,  Assistant Director of Archaeology department who inspected the spot confirmed that the channel which was found near the school was not a “Suranga Marga” neither a tunnel. It is a path used by the British regime to carry out their mining activities. Nearby the place the British had their mining activities at three place among them two have been closed and the one at Kallanahalli is still working with government permission. Further he assisted the school authorities to confirm it with the experts from Zoology department.
