6-year-old Gandhian rebels against father to drive home cleanliness message

Mysuru: A 6-year-old boy studying in second grade rebelled against his father at home by resorting to Gandhigiri and finally tasted success as his protest yielded unexpected results.

Dhanush Gowda , an attentive student studying in second grade was inspired by his teacher’s talk during school hours which revolved around keeping the surroundings clean mainly water tanks, pots and drains to prevent the occurrence of diseases like dengue and chikungunya.

When he returned from school, he insisted on getting his own house water tank cleaned which was a breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies and insects. When his father ignored his pleas the boy refused to have dinner and went to bed without food. Left with no option, the father finally cleaned the water tank.

Disclosing the details, the district officer for controlling communicable diseases Dr.S.Chidambaram applauded the efforts of the boy. He said, a report will be prepared on the young boy’s success story and will be submitted to the state government. He also said, using Dhanush as role model, awareness campaigns must be conducted across the state.

Dhanush’s village gets a face lift

The young boy’s village has 120 families and 600 residents in it and around 80 families have water tanks of their own. Around 20 water tanks remained dirty and those tank owners resorted to cleaning all those tanks on their own ashamed of backlash. The ripple effect has given young Dhanush’s village a fresh look and a clean village tag in no time!
