Mysuru: The rich tradition of Yadhu dynasty was visible in the rituals which began this morning before sunrise at the palace premises as the royal wedding preparations gathered momentum with two days left for the main ‘Muhurtham’ ceremony.

It all began this morning at 4 am with an oil bath and pouring of turmeric water and a special offering which was set aside at the Chamundi pond for the well being of the family. A special puja was performed at the feet of palace priest of Parakala Mutt Shree Vaagish Brahmathantra Swantantra Swamiji before the Pandal ceremony (chappra Shastra) specially erected for the occasion. The scion took part in the proceedings in a devout manner as people gathered around watched the feet washing ceremony. The wedding attire of both the groom and the bride were given to the royal family members after performing certain prayers over them.

At 10 am, rituals related to the engagement and ‘Navagraha puja’ (puja related to nine planets) with offerings consisting coconuts and fruits were performed. In addition, the family deity was carried with incense as the fragrance from flowers and the smoke from the aromatic incense filled the air.

The Yadhu dynasty is around 600 years old and the ‘people’s palace’ as some call it because of the people friendly rule and the development works carried out by successive kings. There good deeds have been acknowledged over centuries with active participation in the palace proceedings by the people either directly or indirectly. The simplicity of the dynasty was evident when the scion Yaduveer went and taught children in a government school few days ago, which is a few miles away from the main palace. Normally the bridal side ushers in the groom’s family, but in this case it’s the opposite. People have rejoiced over the years on every joyous moment that took place in the palace and have grieved immensely when an unforeseen incident had an impact over the dynasty in terms of war, drought or death within the royal family.

The emotional connect that exists between the citizens, especially the cultural city with the Royal family has not diminished despite changes in administration and the events over the years.
