Uttara Kannada (Karnataka): According to authorities, a 26-year-old woman is accused of tossing her six-year-old disabled son into a river infested with crocodiles in Dandeli taluk. The incident reportedly stemmed from ongoing disputes between the couple regarding the condition of their eldest son, who has been mute since birth. They also have a two-year-old son.
Allegedly, the woman, named Savitri, had arguments with her husband, Ravi Kumar (27), about their elder son’s disability, with him questioning why she gave birth to a mute child. At times, he purportedly suggested getting rid of the child altogether.
Following a confrontation over this issue on Saturday evening, Savitri allegedly threw her elder son into a waste canal connected to the Kali river, known for its crocodile population.
Neighbors alerted the police, who conducted a search with the help of locals and divers. However, due to darkness, they couldn’t locate the child. The next morning, the child’s body, bearing severe injuries, bite marks, and a missing hand indicative of a crocodile attack, was recovered.
An investigation is ongoing, with authorities having registered a case against the husband and wife under sections 109 (Abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Both individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
