Hassan:Several women staged a protest in front of the DC office here demanding shifting of bars and wine shops from near residential areas. The protest was organised by Stree Shakti Mahila Sangha and SHG of Halebeedu Hobali in Belur taluk.

They pointed out that the Chamundi Wines on Halesanthe road and Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Bar and Restaurant  were close by a Dalit colony, government hospital, school and police station. They complained that the proximity of the wine shops and bars to residential places inconvenienced students and women. Moreover, the wine shops are luring men in turn affecting family life, they alleged.

Sowbhagya, Jyothi, Lakshmamma, Kusuma, Mangala, Yashoda, Shantha and others of Stree Shakti Mahila Sangha and Self Help Groups took part in the protest.
