Mudigere: The thundershower received in the Mudigere taluk area around ten days ago has brought smiles to the faces of coffee planters of this area as the coffee flowers are glowing like jasmine.

As Banakal, Kottigehara, Baloor, Mudigere, Kalasa and surrounding areas received good rainfall, the beauty are serving lavish sepctacle to onlookers in these areas. For the planters who were tense that another rain would damage the fresh flowers, the nature has been kind and allowed the flowers to wither away naturally as there were no rains over the last three to four days.

As there was good sunshine over the last 20 days, there were quality buds in Robusta and Arabica plants. All the planters had great expectation on rainfall and this time the nature has not let them down. If the area gets light showers within 8-10 days, it would be a blessing for the farmers.

White bunch of flowers are found all over the region, rendering feast for eyes. The coffee estates on either sides of the highway have become latest cynosure for all passing by the highway. The sight of blossom of coffee with honey bees and butterflies around is only adding to the glory of the nature. Last year the rainfall was not enough and the flower withered away amounting to decrease in crops by 40% and more. Along with this, the decrease in the price was a big blow to the farmers who had to then borrow loans to meet their expenditures.

This year, the rain has also saved the irrigation cost, which always becomes a major burden for the planters.
