Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has submitted a memorandum to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) and Bescom to fix a separate price for the electricity, which is being used for ‘Namma Metro’ service.
As a part of price revision, the KERC is collecting opinion from customer institutions. However, the BMRCL has demanded that the price should be revised and for every unit, around one and a half rupees should be reduced from the current price.
A KERC official said, “The BMRCL is demanding to fix the price at Rs.5 per unit, which is the lowest when compared to other metros in the country.Even the Delhi metro pays Rs.6.5 /unit. Though Metro is making profit, they still want us to revise the electricity price. They had requested last year as well.”
“If they don’t get electricity at the cheaper rate, they speak of transferring the burden to the passenger through ticket rate. This pressure tactic of the BMRCL is not fair,” said an Energy Department official.
According to the sources, the BMRCL gets an income of Rs.95 lakh to Rs.1 crore with the sale of tickets, every month. It spends around Rs.50 lakh for the electricity itself. Spending this huge amount of income for the electricity is a burden, claims a BMRCL official.
