Kalaburagi: Principal Secretary of Disaster Management Division of Karnataka Gangaram Baderia said on Monday that the flood situation in Kalaburagi and Bidar districts which had worsened from 4-5 days had come under control after the rains subsided.

Baderia visited the flood-affected areas at Tengli village of Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi on Monday. He said that he had directed the district administrations to take up flood relief works on a war footing.

On his visit, the distressed villagers told Baderia the problems they were facing. Apart from their houses and stored grains being destroyed by the rains, they were not getting even drinking water, they informed.

Baderia inspected the crop loss and damage to the houses and instructed Kalaburagi DC Ujwal Ghosh to make arrangements for providing drinking water through tankers to the flood-affected places at least for a week and to provide compensation for partially damaged houses immediately.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and leader of the opposition in the State Assembly Jagadish Shettar will be visiting the flood-affected areas of Bidar and Kalaburagi on Tuesday, sources said.
