Mangaluru: A joint operation by the fire personnel and local divers has not yielded any fruitful reason as they failed to trace bus conductor Devadas Shetty who jumped off a moving bus into the Kumaradhara River.
Fire personnel and a team of 15 local divers have been carrying out search operations since Sunday. The rains in the region disrupted the search operation.
Devadas Shetty (42), a conductor in the KSRTC bus plying from Mangaluru to Subrahmanya temple had an altercation with a woman passenger. The issue was settled at Kadaba police station. Soon after, Shetty jumped off the bus into the river near a bridge. He left a death note on his trip sheet, which reads: “It is better to die than live, after being humiliated. Goodbye to all my colleagues.” A missing complaint was registered at Subrahmanya police station.
Meanwhile, Shetty’s family members sought a thorough investigation into the incident. They claimed that “harassment” by the police over giving change to a woman passenger might have pushed Shetty towards taking the extreme step.
