Kalaburagi: The special investigation team (SIT) has submitted chargesheet in the Second Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday, regarding the ragging incident which allegedly took place at the Al-Qamar Nursing College hostel on May 9.
Six people including four students -Lakshmi, Athira, Krishnapriya and Shilpa-and Raisa Begumm, warden of the hostel and institute head Esther have been named as accused in the chargesheet. The SIT led by Kalaburagi DySP Janhavi has leveled charges as per IPC Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act of endangering life), Atrocity Prevention Act and Section 116 of Karnataka Education Act pertaining to prevention of ragging on all the six accused.
It may be reacalled that a first year B.Sc Nursing student Ashwathy (19) was allegedly force-fed toilet cleaner by her seniors at the hostel on May 9 which seriously damaged her internal organs. She underwent treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hostel in Kerala for over two months.
Initially the case was registered at Kozhikode Medical College police station on June 21. The case was transferred to Kalaburagi on June 22 and the Kalaburagi police arrested three accused on June 24. All the accused are out on bail.
