Hubballi: “The establishment of an IIT in Raichur was recommended by the previous state government, we cannot go back on that decision”, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday during a public meeting at the convention centre in the city.

Addressing the audience over a debate to push IIT in Raichur – the most backward district in the state the CM clarified that it was a move taken by the previous government.
He mentioned that Raichur is not the only proposed spot; the Centre will send a team to Hubballi-Dharwad and Mysuru as well before taking a call on the matter, he said.
“Jagadish Shettar-led cabinet recommended Raichur in the first place, Siddaramaiah pointed out. However he made it clear that he is not biased against or favoring any district.
“Let the IIT be established in any place. I will be just as happy,” indicating that he is not looking to gift the IIT to his home district Mysuru. To this, Shettar said he had pushed the case for Raichur as a chief minister is doing the same for Dharwad as an MLA of Hubballi Central constituency. Focus on backward taluks”, he added.
“The all-round development of all districts is our vision”, he slated.
District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi, former minister Basavaraj Horatti, MLA Prasad Abbayya also spoke.
