Udupi :A five-day workshop on ‘Embroidery Techniques’ was organized by Manipal University’s Faculty of Architecture in association with Dr. TMA Pai Endowment Chair for Social Entrepreneurship. It was inaugurated here on Tuesday by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr H. Vinod Bhat. He emphasized on embroidery as an art work and inspired the participants to take it up as a business venture.

The workshop will focus on Aari embroidery, a fashion legacy left behind by the Mughals. Although this used to be the fashion some 900 years ago, even today, the embroidery has not lost its value and connoisseurs still marvel at its beauty. The workshop will dwell at length on this beautiful artwork.
The workshop itself started with the creation of a platform to improve the basic hand skills of the participants through simple embroidery stitches thus preparing the participants to incorporate it in their learning and make their experience in this particular form of embroidery a fruitful one. The workshop is organized by the experienced faculty of the Faculty of Architecture.
The lessons in Aari Embroidery are being delivered by an experienced artisan who has brought this knowledge from Rajasthan. The needle used for the embroidery is called ‘Aar’. At the end of the workshop, all the embroidery work done by the participants will be exhibited at the Faculty of Architecture.
