Veteran journalist MV Kamath no more

Udupi: Madhav Vittal Kamath (MV Kamath) passed away on Thursday morning in his native place Manipal. He was 94. He was an Indian journalist and a former chairman of Prasar Bharthi. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004.

He was the Honorary Director of Manipal Institute of Communication. Kamath was also a member of the Executive Committee of MAHE (Deemed University).

As a journalist he worked as the editor of ‘The Sunday Times (India) for 2 years in 1967-69 and as the  Washington Correspondent of ‘Times of India’ during 1969-78. He also served as editor of ‘The Illustrated Weekly of India’.

He was an excellent author and wrote more than 40 books, which includes his autobiography too.

Born in 1921 at Udupi, Kamath completed his B.Sc. in Physics and Chemistry in 1941. For the first five years he worked in the field of Chemistry.

The funeral will be held on Thursday October 9 evening. His body will be kept for public viewing at Nutana Ravindra Mandapa in MGM College from 1 to 4 pm and will be taken to his ancestral house in Kadabettu, Udupi. It will be kept there for an hour before paying the final rites.
