Udupi: District In-Charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that it is surprising to see people wearing saffron shawls claiming to be Hindus only when elections are around the corner.

He was speaking after hoisting the Bhagavad flag at the Vijaya Diwas programme held to commemorate of Sode Sadashivaraya who defeated British at Nandavala in Kadawada Village of the Taluk. “Till yesterday, some people were claiming that they were not Hindu at all. But now they are wearing saffron shawls during elections,” he mocked.

“Such religion and patriotism should not be imbibed in the youth of today. Sadashivaraya should be a role model for them,” he said and added that an army of youth who are true patriots should be created in the society.

He added, “But it is ironic that in our society there are also young people who carry a bomb in a cooker and on the other hand there are few people who defend these kind of youth.”
