Udupi: In what could be termed as a security lapse, two undertrials lodged in Hiriadka jail managed to escape on Saturday January 23. The jail authority revealed the incident on Sunday evening.

Babru and Kumar, both hailing from Haasan had been arrested in June 2015, along with four others in connection to a theft case. The police had recovered gold worth Rs 2.05 lakh from them.

Police sources said that they have launched a massive search operation for the absconding duo.
