Mangaluru: In a heart wrenching incident that took place here on Sunday evening, a two-year-old girl child died after she accidentally fell into a well.

The deceased is identified as Ashwini, daughter of Nagaraja (35) and Laxmi (25), a migrant labourer couple hailing from Bijapur.

The family had been living in a rented house near Ram Bhajan Mandir in Bejai.

It is said that the child was playing near the well located a few metres away from the house and during the course of the play, she ventured near the well and slipped into it.

Though a wire mesh was put on the well, the rusted mesh could not protect the child.

The fire fighters were called in, but it was too late as eventually only her dead body was retrieved from the well.

The local police have registered a case.
