Three yrs after raping school girl, accused sentenced to 16yrs in jail

Udupi: In what seems to be a case of delayed justice, a rape accused was sentenced to a total of 16 years rigorous imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court on Friday, February 12, three years after he raped a school girl in Udupi.

The accused Shubha Kumar was found guilty of sexually assualting a Kindergarten student.

The student was raped on board a school bus on September, 16, 2013. The incident came to light only after the minor informed about it to her parents.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s parents, the police had arrested two school bus conductors Shubha Kumar(26) and Sudhir(48).

On Thursday, the court pronounced judgement and sentenced main accused Shubha Kumar to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI), a fine of Rs 5,000 under section 376(1) of the IPC, five years RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 under section 10 of PCSO Act and one year RI and a fine of Rs 3000 under Section 12 of POCSO Act.

Meanwhile, another accused Sudhir has been acquitted of all charges.
