Mangaluru: The crucial ZP/TP elections are underway across the state. In Dakshina Kannada, over 116 candidates are in fray for the 36 ZP seats and 361 candidates will contest 136 constituencies in the five taluk panchayats.
Both the Congress and the BJP have fielded candidates in all the 36 ZP and 136 TP constituencies in the district.
The JD(S) is contesting 11 ZP constituencies and 16 TP constituencies.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is contesting from seven ZP constituencies, while the Social Democratic Party of India has fielded candidates in three ZP constituencies followed by JD(U) in two constituencies.
The Mangaluru TP has 39 constituencies followed by Bantwal (34), Belthangady (26), Puttur (24) and Sullia (14). On the other hand, Mangaluru taluk sends 10 members to the ZP, followed by Bantwal (9), Belthangady (7), Puttur (6) and Sullia (4).
