Udupi: K T Balakrishna, Superintendent of Police flagged off three highway patrol vehicles for the district at the district police headquarters on Monday, January 23.
Speaking with the media persons after commissioning the three Innova vehicles, he said that each vehicle will be patrolling on National Highway 66 from district border Hejmady to Udyavara, Udyavara to Kumabashi and Kumbashi to district border of Shiroor. These vehicles will be under the district control room and complete supervision of the district additional superintendent of police. One driver, one ASI and a Constable on duty will be in the vehicle round the clock. These vehicles will be patrolling National Highway 66 for 24 hours.
The speciality of the patrolling vehicle is that it is equipped with a folding stretcher, a first aid box, 180 degree moving high definition top search light, 180 degree high definition camera with voice recorder, three colour bar light facility, multi-sound public addressing system, power backup with inverter facility, GPRS and GPS and wireless device for speedy communication with the control room.
He said that the public could call the vehicle for emergency purposes like accidents, thefts, pickpocketing and other criminal activities on National Highway 66.
Additional SP Vishnuvardhan, DSP Kumaraswamy and other top police officials were present.
