Kumta: Three children lost their lives while many others sustained injuries in the second instance of a landslide reported on NH -66 in the wee hours of Sunday, June 11.

The incident occurred at Divagi near Kumta around 2 am in the morning disrupted traffic on the busy Mangaluru-Mumbai highway for several hours. It may be recalled that on June 7 too a landslide was reported at Ottinene hillock near Byndoor in Udupi district. However barring traffic disruptions no casualties were reported then.

The deceased have been identified as Yateen Narayan Ambig (7), Bhavya Narayan Ambig (8), and Dhanush Manjunath Ambig (1).

Meanwhile, the police have said that further landslides in the area could not be ruled out given the soil condition and heavy rains.
