Monday’s bandh call may not affect normal life

Bengaluru: The Federation of Kannada associations (Kannada Okkoota) has called for a state-wide bandh on June 12 demanding resolution to several demands, including drinking water and waiver of farm loans.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Kannada Okkoota president Vatal Nagaraj said campaigns demanding implementation of the Mahadayi and Kalasa-Banduri projects started two years ago, while protests demanding water in Kolar and Chickballapur districts intensified year go.

“Neither the state government nor the MPs from Karnataka have exerted pressure on the Prime Minister to resolve the issue,’’ Nagaraj said.

According to him, the members of Kannada Okkoota will gather at Town Hall at 11 am on Monday and proceed towards to lay siege to the Vidhana Soudha.

Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Sa. Ra. Govindu said the bandh will be effective from 6 am to 6 pm. “Hospitals, medical stores and milk supply are exempted. The issue can be resolved in 24 hours if Prime Minister Narendra Modi take interest,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, some organizations including taxi associations and petrol dealers are not participating in the bandh. The Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka have decided not to support the bandh but have told schools to exercise discretion and take a call on declaring holiday.
