Karkala: A couple who had eloped in order to get married have now been caught, and due to the factor of age difference, the guy has been sent back home whereas the girl has been sent to an orphanage.

Mahesh alias Dhanush (20), son of ShekharPoojary from Muddanna Nagar in Sanoor who had eloped with Safnaz (24), daughter of Latheef, who is his neighbour are the couple in question.

The couple eloped in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. The couple were heading towards Mumbai where the boy’s father runs a business. As the situation was a bit complex, the father of the boy produced the couple at the Karkala Police Station on Friday morning.

Mahesh who had not completed the stipulated 21 years of age, and was lagging by a period of three months, the police instructed them that as per the laws of the land, they could not get married.

Despite the elders requests to return home, the girl remained adamant that she wanted to marry Mahesh, and due to the fact that she is a major with full rights to do as she wishes, the police accepted her request to be shifted to SpoorthiDhaama, an orphanage home.

Such being the situation, it remains to be see what the future holds for these couples.
