Udupi: The coastal villages in the region are facing an assault at the hands of nature, through soil erosion. High tides and strong currents have been washing away soil on the shore. The rains from the past four days have put the coastal line into to fear especially for the people residing near the shore.
At Kodibengre village under the Paduthonse Gram Panchayat, huge sea waves washed away the sand bags across the seashore and houses in the adjacent area. Now, Seven to eight houses and a few coconut trees face the danger of being damaged.
The temporary provision to control sea erosion, such as store walls and sand bags has already been washed off in this area. More than rains the harsh wind have been creating the big waves, Mohan Karvi – a resident added.
“The rains have just started and this is the condition, the people are scared to face the monsoon”. This area every year faces erosion and the political leaders and the officials are not capable to handle the situation.
The public here demanded permanent solution for the sea erosion.
