Rape accused held hours after committing crime

Karkala: The city police have been successful in arresting a man on the charges of rape; hours after he committed the crime and was produced in court on Friday September 12

In a speedy shift made by the police, the accused identified as 26-year-old Pradeep a resident of Kalya village was arrested on the charges of raping a 20-year-old girl.

According to the police, in the complaint lodged by the girl, she stated that as she was walking home at around 6 pm on September 10 in Kalya village from work Pradeep dragged her away and raped her in a deserted spot.

He then left her there and went to a bar located at Udupi bypass road, where he reportedly works. The girl filed a police complaint at about 10 pm the same day.
Assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai, immediately led a team of policemen that raided the bar where the accused works, and took him into custody and interrogated by the police.

On inquiring, he admitted his crime and also said that he had made an attempt to rape on another girl earlier. The minor girl, studying in a school, was returning home when he had pulled her by hand. The girl had succeeded in wriggling out of his grip and running away to safety then.

He has been held under judicial custody.
