Udupi: An NIT-K student died while swimming in Malpe beach on Sunday, January 21, as he was washed away by strong water currents.

The deceased is identified as Prasad Babu. He was 19.

According to sources, a group of eight students went to Malpe beach to spend their weekend. While the rest of the group was sitting on the boulders in the sea, Babu dived into the water for swimming but was washed away.

Though coastal guards, tried to rescue him, they were not successful. Babu hailed from Andhra Pradesh. He was a second year Mechanical Engineering student.
