Karkala :A rape accused who had sexually assaulted a mentally disabled girl at a house in Nallur in Bajagoli tried to commit suicide here on August 22.

Jagga alias Jagadish(50) tried to commit suicide by consuming poison.

He had tried to escape after police identified him as an accused in the sexual assault. When police came to know his where abouts he took poison and tried to kill himself. He has been admitted in the hospital.

The Media had published a story on poor condition of the girl’s family. So the bunts association had given financial aid and built a new house. They had also helped her sister to get married earlier.

The locals are cursing the accused for exhibiting animal behaviour on the girl.
