Udupi: The effects of weather changes are leading to widespread cold, fever, and malaria in the district. Currently, Udupi has reported 22 cases of malaria and 75 cases of dengue. The symptoms of malaria and dengue are more prevalent in urban areas compared to rural areas, causing concern.
In the district, a significant number of workers are settled, residing in huts and small houses, which is resulting in the higher prevalence of disease-carrying mosquitoes. The production of disease-carrying mosquitoes is particularly high in the Udupi district’s Santekatte and Kalsanka areas.
While,there were 45 dengue cases by the end of June, the number rose to 85 cases by the end of July. In August, 75 cases have already been reported. Among those who have already shown symptoms of infection, a majority are workers who are settled in the region. Symptoms of this disease have been observed in people who have migrated from other districts, including Jharkhand, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh, to work here.
Stagnant water and the presence of mosquitoes in abandoned buildings have contributed to the breeding of mosquitoes. Maintaining cleanliness, ensuring that water does not stagnate, and keeping the environment clean are crucial measures to prevent the disease, as emphasized by Dr. Prashant Bhat, the Health Officer.
