Karkala: Following delay in the ongoing work of Kabettu bridge which connects the historic Attur church with Karkala town, the Muncipal Council has decided to complain to the district administration.
The State government had sanctioned Rs 16 crores aid to the Karkala municipal authority during the historic Karkala Mahamasthakabhisheka in 2015.

The project includes development of main roads in the town, cleanliness, drinking water, beautifying the town, auditorium and bridge works.

The drinking water, cleanliness and few other works which were assigned to the town municipality was duly completed. Whereas, the auditorium and bridge work assigned to the Public Works department is going at a snail’s pace.

The bridge work started in December at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakhs. The water scarcity in the town forced the contractors to use drainage water which flows under the bridge for the ongoing work. The residents fear that vector-borne diseases might start affecting them due to the stagnant drainage water there.

When media persons went for a reality check, there were only three labourers at the construction site.

Rayappa, Karkala Town Municipal Council (TMC) officer said that the work was supposed to end by April. The town municipality has now decided to complain the same to the district administration.
