Karkala: The heavy rains that lashed over Hebri over the last two days battered the region and caused widespread damage, throwing life out of gear.
Several houses were damaged and electric poles were uprooted at various parts of the taluk.
Several trees were uprooted in Hebri, Mudrady, Bachappu, Seethanadi and Someshwar. More than 300 electric poles too were uprooted causing disruption in electricity supply. A huge tree fallen on the Mudrady-Bachappu-Agumbe road blocked vehicular movement for sometime.
A Mango tree fell on mortuary of the Hebri Government Community Hospital partially damaging the structure.
As many as 50 houses were damaged after areca tree fell over them in Hebri.
More than 2000 rubber trees of Twinkle Rubber Nursery were uprooted. Also Mudrady Cashew factory and other buildings have suffered loss.
Former MLA H Gopala Bhandary visited the affected areas, that too on a local leader Hebri Janardhan’s bike as uprooted trees had blocked roads leaving car users away from roads.
The Mescom officials were seen fixing up the disrupted lines in the area. However, the locals had to suffered as the lines could not be restored over the last two days.
The locals along with forest officials cleared the roads in Someshwar forest region limits.
Revenue officials, panchayath members, BJP and Congress local leaders visited the affected areas.
