Fifteen-year-old murders 9-year-old, detained by police

Kundapur: A 9-year-old boy who went out to play on Saturday January 10 never returned, while on Monday, January 12 his body found was  in a well at Bannadi-Upladi.  A15-year-old boy has been detained by the police.

The deceased Sughosh Adiga (9), who as studying in 4th standard, went missing on Saturday from Kota near Kundapur. According to the sources Sughosh left on a bicycle after his neighbour, a 15-year-old boy, called him to play. However until late in evening he did not return, the family members searched in the vicinity did not yield any results. The bicycle was found near the house later.

 Reportedly, the minor boy who took Sughosh to play said that Sughosh had come to his house at 3 pm on Saturday. After having some snacks, the two boys got into some fight, during which Sughosh got injured and was unable to breathe, that led to his death. Panckied by the situation the boy threw Sughosh’s body into the well near his house, said the police.

 The culprit, who belonged to Bengaluru, where his parents stay, had been living at his uncle’s house for quite some time at Kota. On Sunday, when the police reached his uncle’s house for investigation, the 15-year-old fled. Later it was known that the boy had left for his grandmother’s house in Shivamogga. However Monday morning, an auto rickshaw driver spotted him and informed the police.

 During interrogation, the boy is said to confessed to the crime after which the police recovered Sughosh’s body. Learning of the incident the angry locals pelted stones at the minor boy’s uncle’s house.

 Udupi SP Annamalai arrived at the spot and said that investigations are under way and urged the locals to remain calm. Police said that a murder case will be registered.

 Sughosh’s father passed away three months ago due to heart attack. Sughosh is survived by his mother, who is also said to be sick and an elder brother who studies in first year PUC. The family is known to be very poor.
