Udupi: State is not serious about opposing the recommendations of the K. Kasturirangan report on the conservation of Western Ghats says Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP while addressing a press meet at the Dr V S Acharya Auditorium, Manipal here on Monday.

We have hopes from the state government besides; the government has not successfully implemented geographical evaluation of the Western Ghats.

Kerala was the only State which physically verified the ESA and identified both natural and cultural landscapes within the given time by the tribunal.

She added that Kerala government has worked hard and still they wanted to evaluate the situation and formed a team led by retired forest officials to survey the land indicated by the Kasturirangan report.

Based on the recommendations by the retired police officials, the Kerala government has sent in the report of to the Supreme Court Green Bench.

However Karnataka government did not even respond to the district protest on the same issue.

Kasturirangan report is purely based on the satellite imagery and not on physical verification.

BJP leaders had met PM and urged to direct the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to request the tribunal to give six months for physical verification to identify the cultural landscape that was part of the ESA, she added.
