As the 2024 general elections approach, the Congress party is exploring the possibility of bringing back J P Hegde to contest the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru seat in an attempt to regain its political standing in the region. Despite the party high command’s efforts, there is strong opposition from local leaders in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru.

Hegde, known for his grassroots connections and past electoral victories, is viewed as a strategic move to revitalize the party’s prospects. However, the current Congress leadership in the area opposes this decision, presenting a challenge to Hegde’s potential return. The final decision is expected with the official announcement of the party candidate in the coming days.
