Udupi: Discussions on misuse of government land by Manipal University was the highlight of CMC General Body meeting here Tuesday on June 30.

Prashanth Amin, councilor, raised the issue and said there are various aspects ignored by the municipality that needs to be rechecked. He added that though the University denied all the charges of land misuse, a thorough investigation is required in this issue.
He also questioned that parking zone and a large number of shops are functioning inside the campus do they have municipal licenses?
CMC president P. Yuvaraj said that a Task Force will be formed including local councilors to study the issue in detail and probe if there is any government land in Manipal that has been used irregularly.
He further said that, it is learnt that University has come forward to hand over some land to district administration. In that case an appeal will be given to DC to transfer the land to the CMC to use it for development purpose.
Yuvaraj demanded clarification from the MESCOM officials for giving power to the NRI Hostel of the University where CMC denied occupancy certificate and door numbers.
The MESCOM official said that a vigilance committee is formed to probe the matter. University had got a Stay Order from the court to maintain status on power connection till July 15.
