Bhandarkars College exhibition depicts Karnataka’s tribal traditions

Udupi: Bhandarkars College, Kundapura organized an exhibition on tribal life of Karnataka, their artistic work, life style and culture.  It was an opportunity for the students to understand  tribal life and their precious heritage.

Gangadhar Daivajna, Kannada professor from Hampi University, while addressing the students said that new life of modernization and adoption of western culture are certainly taking away the root of our own culture and knowledge.

He added that the Indian tribal tradition and folk culture is the nation’s pride. The present scenario shows that, the tribal families follow less than 40% of their real culture because the modern society forces them to adapt  to modern trends, he pointed out.

The modern technology leads our brain no- were, we are more depended on gadgets however tribal folks are people with no education and extra ordinary memory power, he said.

He said it is time to preserve the sustaining culture and uplift the diminishing values of tribal folk tradition. He called  on students to study  tribal and folk culture. “We are directly indirectly forcing them to get them out of their lifestyle”.

At present there are 11 tribal folk teams in Karnataka out of which, 7 folk teams participated and mounted their traditional dance and culture on stage.

Students speaking to Newskarnataka.com said that “It is a chance for us to understand the values and the legacy inherited by the tribals”. They added that we have just seen them in books and movies but after understanding tribal life, we are interested to know more about them and their culture and contribute to the nation to preserve our culture.

 Divya,  BA Journalism student said that, for the first time I am watching most of the rural items that were displayed here, I am not able to understand the use of them and what they are  called.  It is shocking to know that in our society a group of people still live with these equipments and  follow ancient traditions.
