The agitation by the CITU and AITUC beedi workers unions has led to the Beedi Company owners assuring, dearness allowances Rs 21.15 for the Beedi workers in the district.  The workers expressed happiness and celebrated this announcement by the Beedi owners.

Mahabala Woderhobli, President of the federation said that the beedi workers are happy with owner’s decision as they have assured to provide the dearness allowances from April 1 to August 13 in the month of October.

He also added that earlier they had planned to go for a hunger strike which has been cancelled consequent on the company owners decision.

Further he said the Beedi workers were denied the minimum basic facilities for living. It is a welcome move from the company to help the needy. He declared that  the Beedi workers have called off the proposed strik.

The workers burst crackers and celebrated the day.
