Karkala : The market place at Bajagoli is in utter chaos and has of late turned into a breeding ground for diseases. The market is housed in a dilapidated structure  which may collapse any time. Still the apathy of the Mudaru Gram Panchayat towards this grave issue has   surprised villagers.

Bajagoli is an important town enroute Kudremukh, Shringeri, Dharmasthala and other places via Karkala. Though the town has progressed much with several multi-storied constructions coming up of late, the market building however presents a dismal picture.

The merchants as well as people visiting the market to make purchases, should indeed have to risk their lives here-for such is the pathetic state of the old structure. Locals want the Panchayat to act fast before something grave happens.

To add to the problem, a death trap could be spotted close by the market building. In reality, it is a manhole that is left uncovered. However, some   person has tried to help a little bit to avert a danger by placing an old gate of the market over it.

The entire market place is stinking due to the vegetable wastes scattered all over. Most of the roof tiles of the market building are also broken.  Though  tin sheets were provided  for the convenience of the traders, even that has been razed to the ground during the recent heavy rains.Vegetable sellers somehow manage here by using tarpaulin sheets during rains.

Villagers say the Panchayat which is quite financially strong  has completely neglected cleanliness issues.  When the Panchayat President Umesh was contacted, he assured all efforts to get the market building repaired. He said the panchayat earned Rs 80000 from the  market  but is facing shortage of space for garbage disposal.

He also assured to discuss the issue with the new Panchayat Development Officer and take steps to refurbish the market.
