Mangalore: 21-year-old Nitin Kumar a resident of Uppala and 22-year-old Naveen Alva a resident of Kumbla, allegedly bashed up a  muslim boy, Umar Farooq for accompanying two girls from a different community.

The alleged incident happened on July 25th when Umar Farooq came to Mangalore from Kasargod along with two girls, who are said to be his classmates and proceeded to KS Rao Road for  shopping, after which they decided to go to the beach.

Since they did not know the way, they asked bystanders, Nitin and Naveen for directions, who directed them to the Sharavu temple.  On reaching there, the duo bashed up Umar Farooq. The  girls ran away from the spot, fearing for their lives.

Both Nitin Kumar  and Naveen Alva were arrested by the Mangalore North police who registered a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC. They have been produced before the jurisdictional magistrate.
