Karkala : In a tragic mishap, three labourers were crushed to death by a cement mixer  which was loaded on a tempo, when the machinery rolled onto one side of the vehicle which was proceeding at great speed at Maroor near Ajekar on July 18, Friday. Eighteen others sustained injuries in the mishap. The dead included a woman.

Sources said the tempo was over speeding  even as the driver was  speaking over a mobile phone, Several labourers were crammed in the tempo which was also carrying a cement mixer unit.

It is learnt many of the labourers have sustained serious injuries and they have been admitted to the Karkala Government Hospital.

The names of some of the injured are Ranganna Gowda (55), Ramanna (20), Sharanabasappa (18), Ellamma,Mahadevi, Vijaykumar (60), Puttamma (21), Shobha (29), Gadiappa (45),  Mahantesh (50) and Hanumanta (45).

Local police rushed to the mishap spot.
