However, in the entire episode, five persons have been injured after the machetes that the assailants threw missed the targets.

The story revolves around Super killer Praveen Kulal and Kodikere Vishwanath Poojary. It is said that over the last one week Kulal had been calling up Shetty, asking him when the two can meet.

However, on Tuesday when Shetty had been to Manipal, Kulal and Poojary had come in a black Scorpio and struck a talk with Shetty, specifically demanding ‘hafta’ from him.

They had threatened of killing him if he did not succumb to the demand.

When Shetty turned down the demand, the duo had left the place, but continued to pester Shetty and Mahesh Kumar Bailur persistently.

Fed up by the threatening, the two had challenged the callers to show their muscle power in Bailur, where they have stronghold.

Accordingly, the supari killer gang took their words seriously and came for a face off on Thursday. When the encounter between the two happened the main targets were missed and in the fight, five were injured.

Bailoor Sandeep, Deepak, Amith, Kabettu Vasu, Nitte Sudheer have been injured and have been admitted to local hospitals.

The police are investigating and ascertaining the reason behind the act. They are yet to ascertain if the attack was political, religious or personal. It is said that the BJP had decided to field Vikram Hegde from Bailur ZP constituency, but Sumeeth Shetty was finalised for the same seat at the last minute.

However, there are many versions that are mushrooming around the attack, one of which shows strong religious colours too.
