Youth from Koppa arrested by Suratkal cops on rape charges

Mangalore: A youth hailing from Koppa who   resides in Suratkal has been arrested by the police on the charges of  raping a 17 year old girl at Savadatti in Belgaum district.

The accused 23-year-old Sangamesh  had allegedly raped the  girl who  was his neighbour. The victim has been sent for medical examination.

It has been learnt that Sangamesh and the girl who were having an affair since a few years had left for Belgaum on the night o March 11 by a bus. The two  it is learnt, visited the Yellamma Temple at Savadatti  and  had later on March 14 married in a temple. It is learnt, the girl was later raped in a  lodge room which was booked by a certain Akash.

The two had then returned to Suratkal and appeared before the police as the girl’s family  had  lodged a complaint of missing.Sangamesh however claimed that  it was the girl who  had forced  him to marry her, while the girl has  made a request to the police to release  Sangamesh.

It has been gathered that a team of Suratkal police have left for Belgaum to investigate the case.
